At their September 18 meeting, the Joshua ISD Board of Trustees recognized members of the JISD family for their accomplishments.

The Board recognized Joshua High School’s NJROTC program for its successful summer competition season.

During the Basic Leadership Training at Tarleton State University in June, Cadet Sam Garcia graduated with distinction and was named Honor Cadet.

In July, Joshua Rifle Teams traveled to Anniston, Alabama, to train and compete against the best in the nation. Six JISD cadets made the final round at a Civilian Marksmanship Program-sanctioned match on July 28. JISD took the top three spots; Brooklyn Reames placed first, Jaxon Bunch second, and Jaren Vickers third.

Cadet Ryland Aguzzi earned a flight scholarship from the Fraternal Order of the Daedalian. The organization of retired military pilots gives scholarships to inspire high school and college students to pursue an aviation career. Cadet Aguzzi flew an aircraft solo on August 12. 

Last week, Lt. Col. Davidson learned that Cadet Aguzzi earned the prestigious Bronze Cross for Achievement by the Legion of Valor. The Legion of Valor is a fraternal organization of the remaining Medal of Honor and Service Cross recipients. Representatives of the Legion will present the award to Cadet Aguzzi at the Navy Ball on October 25. 

 
The Board also recognized North Joshua Elementary parent Nick Lewis and teachers Mandy McCoy and Jaclyn Hapgood for quick reactions on Friday, September 8, when a downed powerline sparked a grass fire near the school. Mr. Lewis extinguished the fire by stomping on it with his boots. Due to the drought-like conditions and high winds, this could have escalated into a dangerous situation.
